Fuzzy Synth // how it was made

Fuzzy Synth is a project of Passepartout Duo that began in Shanghai during our residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel. The project began as a follow up to our Vis-à-Vis project, our first attempt to create our own instruments. We wanted to understand what it would take to create the electronic instruments we use everyday ourselves, and set off to make an analog synthesizer with absolutely none of the experience or knowledge necessary to do so. The project was enriched by the discovery of a nearby and enormous electronics market, called SEG, where it was possible to source components in person, and enter the massive cultural and iconoclastic electronics supply chain that exists in China.

It was important for us to create something with visual impact as well, and our interest in textiles was quickly supported by the Chinese brand JNBY. Our hope for a Fuzzy Synth Mark II is to learn about conductive thread, and about more radical ways to connect fibers and electronics.

Here is an overview and links to some of the fantastic material that we found online that helped us learn and build through the process. Looking forward to learning more about all of it!
