Pieces from Places
An exercise in listening to the world, twelve tracks written over the years from twelve different locations
For nearly a decade, Passepartout Duo has lived in motion. Without a studio to return to, their creative world has been shaped instead by a constantly shifting horizon. Pieces from Places, a series of 12 tracks released monthly over the course of a year, encapsulates that wandering life into a series of vignettes released from different corners of the world.
Each track works like a sonic journal: a negotiation between an idea, an experience, and a memory that refuses to settle into a single interpretation. The duo’s blend of off-kilter percussive grooves and delicately glowing synth melodies shapes the project with a language both unmistakable and unplaceable: music that belongs everywhere and nowhere at once. Pieces from Places is a celebration of curiosity and listening to the world as a collaborative continuous experience.
The artwork is a manipulated image of the Rostocker Pfeilstorch, a stork discovered in Germany which had migrated from central Africa with an arrow in its neck. It provided early proof for the migration of birds - the striking image acting as a reference for the varying connotations that travel and migration can assume.
The limited edition flexi disc features two additional bonus tracks (From Memphis and From Narva) - its artwork also references the Pfeilstorch featuring a two-color risograph print of artist Uladzimir Hramovich’s 2024 work “I am Pfeilstorch”.
